How Our Calculators Work

Every estimate runs the same three-step math a quarry uses: area × depth gives cubic feet, dividing by 27 converts to cubic yards, and multiplying by the material’s density converts volume into the tons suppliers actually sell. Because density varies — crushed stone is about 1.5 tons per cubic yard, pea gravel 1.35, lava rock only 0.65 — picking the right calculator matters more than it looks.
